Last Point of Departure

The day after the horrific terror attacks in Brussels, my colleagues and I on the House Committee on Homeland Security advanced several important pieces of legislation to keep Americans safe. One piece of legislation, the Securing Aviation from Foreign Entry Points and Guarding Airports Through Enhanced Security Act of 2016, improves safety at foreign airports that have direct flights to the United States, also known as Last Point of Departure (LPD) airports.

The bill directs TSA to conduct and implement a security coordination enhancement plan and allows the TSA to fill security gaps if they find that a LPD does not meet our standards.

The attack in Brussels, the downing of the Metrojet flight last October, and other attacks highlight the vulnerabilities of threats overseas to our homeland. In order to keep our nation safe, we must ensure individuals traveling from foreign airports are held to the same scrutiny as individuals within our country.

I want to hear from you.
