Carter procures funding for Nahunta wastewater system improvements

NAHUNTA – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) procured $5.4 million in federal funding for the City of Nahunta to construct a new wastewater plant as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Agriculture, Rural Development, Food and Drug Administration, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

The City of Nahunta’s current wastewater treatment system was only designed to be used through the year 2000.

“Fighting for the City of Nahunta’s sewerage system improvement project to be included in this year’s federal funding packages was a no-brainer. After using the current system for more than 20 years beyond its planned expiration date, it’s past time to upgrade these systems so Nahunta can support its residents for decades to come,”
said Rep. Carter.

“We are grateful for the Federal Congressional Directed Community Project Funding, investing in water and sewer infrastructure is investing in the future of our community,”
said Thomas Wirth, City Manager, City of Nahunta.
