Carter announces federal funding for Darien wastewater treatment improvements

DARIEN – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) secured $1 million for the City of Darien to upgrade its wastewater treatment plant to meet the city’s increased demand on its water infrastructure as part of the Fiscal Year 2024 Department of the Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act.

As major economic development projects continue to drive business and residents to Darien, this funding will support its Wastewater Treatment Plant Expansion project so that it can handle up to 1 million gallons of wastewater per day in an environmentally friendly manner.

"As our District continues to grow and thrive, we must ensure that our infrastructure can continue to meet residents’ needs. Darien is a small city that is attracting quite a bit of economic development. I’m proud to have secured this vital funding so that its wastewater system can be improved to handle this growth,"
said Rep. Carter.

"Buddy Carter again shows why he is one of the hardest working members of Congress. He works for the small cities as equally as he does the larger ones. Darien is an attractive booming spot, and these funds are sorely needed for our infrastructure. Yet again, Congressman Carter thank you for caring about Darien,"
said Mayor Bubba Hodge, City of Darien.

"The City of Darien is grateful for the community grant received. It will enable us to invest in critical infrastructure allowing for economic growth and prosperity for hard working Georgians in Darien and McIntosh County,"
said Richard Braun, City Manager, City of Darien.

"This announcement comes with great pride on all levels,"
said Marcus Sack, President of M.E. Sack Engineering, who assisted with this grant application and the preliminary engineering report. "It brings me great pride for the growth happening in the City of Darien. Great pride for our hardworking representative Buddy Carter helping make this possible. And great pride in M.E. Sack Engineering being a trusted community partner to local communities so that we can assist them every step of the way."
