Defense Funding Authorization

Congress will send the fiscal year 2016 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) to President Obama's desk to sign into law this week.

The National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for fiscal year 2016 is the primary way Congress meets its most important constitutional obligation to “provide for the common defense.” It advances the vital funding and authorities that America’s military requires and it passed with a bipartisan majority.

To my extreme dismay and concern, the President has threatened to veto this important legislation even though the bill matches the exact level of funding the President requested for defense discretionary funding. Instead, the President will likely use our military and the national security of the United States of America as a bargaining chip in an attempt to increase domestic spending in our current dire fiscal situation.

The veto decision is especially dangerous as the threats against America continue to increase around the world. The Commander-in-Chief cannot put a political agenda ahead of our troops, veterans, and national security.

What do you think?
