This week on buddy's Briefing |
|
This week President Biden signed the Democrats' $1.9 trillion liberal wishlist into law. As I've said before, hardworking Americans and small businesses still need help and we must ensure all Americans who want the COVID-19 vaccine are able to get one, but this isn't the way to do it. Congress doesn't need to spend another $1.9 trillion when we still have $1 trillion in previously enacted, unspent stimulus funding. Georgia is also the worst-hit state under this plan because it rewards blue state lockdowns while punishing hardworking Georgians.
Also this week, Democrats in the House passed their attempts to infringe on the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding Americans. I strongly opposed these bills and I will always stand up for your Second Amendment rights.
We discuss this and more in this episode of Buddy's Briefing.

vaccinate americans first |
I introduced a resolution this week with other House Republicans calling on Congress to prioritize the vaccination of Americans from COVID-19 before exporting doses to foreign countries.
As Georgians wait in line for the COVID vaccine, this resolution is common sense. Any and all Americans who want a COVID vaccine should absolutely get one before we send them to other countries. Vaccinations will save lives here in America and are critical to returning to a normal way of life. I’m proud to stand with my colleagues to fight to ensure Americans receive vaccines first.

Monday, March 8, 2021: On Saturday I had the honor of speaking at the 6th annual meeting of APEX held at the Westin Resort on Hutchinson Island in Savannah. APEX is a pharmacy buying group that services independent retail pharmacies in the Southeast U.S. Also, on Saturday, I attended the annual business meeting of the Skidaway Island Republican Club in Savannah. Before heading to the airport for my return trip to Washington this morning, I have a virtual interview with Fox 28 TV in Savannah to discuss the $1.9 trillion Pelosi Payoff that has been passed out of the House and Senate with no Republican input and no Republican support.
Rep. Carter speaking at the 6th annual meeting of APEX |
Because changes were made to the original bill in the Senate after it left the House, it comes back to us this week where we will have one last chance to stop this Democratic wish list. While I acknowledge that there are still people and businesses that are hurting and need our help, the fact that we still have $1 trillion left from previous bipartisan relief packages and that less than 9 percent of this package will be spent on health care are two of the main reasons I am opposed to this political payoff. Once back at the Capitol, I have a Whip Team meeting where we discuss the legislation that will be voted on this week before I head to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week. Afterwards, I head to a specially called GOP member meeting where we discuss community project funding through the Appropriation process. My last meeting of a very long day is a bipartisan member briefing with leaders from the Capitol Police, National Guard and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) to discuss security assessment of the Capitol complex.
Tuesday, March 9, 2021: During our weekly GOP Conference meeting, I step out briefly to do a live interview on Wake-up Springfield in Springfield, Missouri, as I discuss the changes to the election process that the Georgia State Legislature is considering this session. After the GOP Conference, I head to the House Chamber where I deliver tributes to long time Hinesville Clerk Sara Lumpkin, Britnee Kinard of the SD Gunner Fund who was presented the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award, and National Pharmacists Day. A link to my tributes can be found here, here, and here. Once back in my office, I join in on our all-staff conference call before having a phone interview with Huff Post to discuss the SK Innovation EV battery plant being built in Commerce in North Georgia. Next, I have the honor of speaking to students at the Notre Dame of Maryland University School of Pharmacy as I describe to them my journey from pharmacy into the political world.
Rep. Carter speaks to Nexstar |
Afterwards, I head to the Cannon Rotunda where I have an on-camera interview with Nexstar (WSAV-TV Savannah) to discuss the $1.9 trillion Pelosi Payoff that we will be voting on this week. After arriving back in my office, I have a phone conference with representatives from the Towing and Recovery Association of America before having a virtual call with members of the Ovarian Cancer Research Alliance. Next, I head to the House Chamber where I speak on the motion for unanimous consent on the Reopen our Schools Act. Afterwards, I remain in the House Chamber as we have a six-vote series that lasts from 3:30 to 9:00 p.m. Between votes I have a conference call with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) fisheries division to discuss the SeaPoint Marine Terminal in Savannah and join in on a call with the White House for a COVID-19 response briefing.
Wednesday, March 10, 2021: An unexpected motion to adjourn is called first thing this morning and, after heading to the House Chamber and voting, I remain in the Chamber and speak in opposition to the $1.9 trillion Pelosi Payoff that we are voting on today. A link to my speech can be found here. Afterwards, I head back to my office where I have a virtual call with Brig. Gen. Charles Costanza, the incoming commanding officer at Fort Stewart who will take command in June of 2021. Next, I have a virtual interview with Gray TV (WTOC-TV in Savannah) to discuss the $1.9 trillion Pelosi Payoff that will take $1.3 billion from Georgia taxpayers as well as $11.5 billion from seniors on Medicare in Georgia and send it to Democratic states such as California and New York.
Rep. Carter appears on Fox Business |
After attending a meeting of the conservative Republican Study Committee (RSC), I head to the Cannon Rotunda where I have a live interview on Fox Business to discuss news of the day. A link to my interview can be found here. Next, I head to the House Chamber where, for the second time, House Democrats pass the $1.9 trillion Pelosi Payoff without any Republican input or support. Afterwards, I head back to my office where I have a virtual call with representatives from the Coastal Recreation Association followed by a virtual call with the Georgia School Nutrition Association. Next, I head to the Longworth building where I record a radio announcement encouraging people to get the COVID-19 vaccine before heading back to the House Chamber for our final vote of the day. Afterwards, I remain in the House Chamber where I speak in opposition to the two gun bills that will be voted on tomorrow and amount to nothing more than a gun grab by the Democrats. A link to my speech can be found here.
Thursday, March 11, 2021: I’m up early and at a Doctors Caucus meeting this morning as we discuss health care priorities and policy opportunities. Afterwards, I head to the House Chamber where we have four votes this morning. Next, I head back to my office where I record two videos - a candlelight vigil for law enforcement and a congratulatory message for the National Honor Society’s Centennial Celebration. After heading back to the Capitol to record this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing, I join in on our all-staff conference call. Before heading to the airport for my return trip home, I return to my office where I have a virtual call with the Georgia Credit Union Association followed by a virtual call with Georgia Historic Preservation Advocates. |
