On Veterans Day we honor the patriots who have served to protect and defend our freedoms. America has become the strongest force in the world because of the men and women who continue to put their country first. Our veterans deserve to be honored each and every day.
Thank you to those who have served and those who continue to serve. Because of you, America can sleep peacefully at night.

Monday, November 4, 2019: Yesterday, I had the honor of being the keynote speaker at the Glynn County Republican Party Keep America Great Georgia/Florida Fish Fry held on St. Simons Island. Led by President Dr. Ginny Hall, this is not only one of the largest groups in our District but one of the most active as well. Afterwards, I headed to the Jacksonville airport where I flew to Phoenix, AZ, to take part in the Arizona All-of-the-Above Energy Tour hosted by Rep. Debbie Lesko (AZ-08). After grabbing a few hours of sleep, I join other members of the tour at the Palo Verde Energy Education Center where we are transported to the Palo Verde Nuclear Generating Station, the largest power plant in the U.S. by net generation, serving about four million people.

Located in the Arizona desert and managed by the Arizona Public Service (APS), the Palo Verde Generating Station is the only large nuclear power plant in the world that is not located near a large body of water. It is also the only power plant in the world that uses reclaimed waste water from surrounding cities as its cooling water. The three nuclear power reactors at the plant generate almost 30% of Arizona’s electricity while emitting no greenhouse gases. After a roundtable discussion led by executives of the facility, we are led on a tour of the impressive facility that encompasses over 4000 acres.

Afterwards, we visit the Palo Verde Security Shooting Range where we learn of the extensive training that security officers at the facility are required to complete. Next, we travel to Solana Generating Station, one of the largest concentrating solar power (CSP) plants in the world. Solana implements the CSP technology using a parabolic trough system which rotates with the movement of the sun and thermal storage using molten salts. The Solana solar plant provides clean energy to 70,000 households. After a briefing by staff we tour the vast facility that is one of the only solar plants that can store energy for up to 8 hours after the sun sets.
Tuesday, November 5, 2019: On day two of our Arizona All-of-the-Above Energy Tour, we have a helicopter tour of the Arizona watershed that includes a system of seven storage dams and 1,300 miles of canals and laterals, delivering more than 1 million-acre feet of water annually to municipalities and irrigators.

Operated by the Salt River Project (SRP), it provides power to nearly 1 million customers in a 2,900 square-mile service area in central Arizona. Included in the seven storage dams is the Theodore Roosevelt Dam, once the world’s tallest masonry dam that was constructed between 1905 and 1911 to control the flow of the Salt River and harness the water for irrigation. The dam is credited with turning the Arizona desert into land that could be farmed.
Wednesday, November 6, 2019: After taking a redeye flight from Phoenix last night, I wake up in San Antonio, TX, this morning and head to Brooke Army Medical Center (BAMC) at Fort Sam Houston, the only Level 1 Trauma Center in the Department of Defense (DOD). BAMC provides emergency services during 80,000 emergency department visits annually and serves as the premier medical readiness training platform for both the Army and the Air Force.

The primary reason for my visit is to see an Army Ranger Special Operations soldier from Fort Stewart who was gravely injured in combat in Afghanistan in mid-August 2019, and is receiving care here. At the time of his injury, this hero lived in Pooler in Chatham County and attended Wesley Monumental United Methodist Church in Savannah. After this most meaningful visit, I am led on a tour of BAMC and the impressive facilities including the Center for the Intrepid (CFI). The four story CFI stands as a pre-eminent extremity injury rehabilitation center to treat amputees and burn victims and provide training to help disabled servicemen use prosthetics, perform everyday tasks and reintegrate with society. One of the most impressive medical facilities in the nation, CFI provides state-of-the-art care and research in the fields of orthopaedics, prosthetics and physical/occupational rehabilitation. After this great visit, I head to the airport for my return trip home.
Thursday, November 7, 2019: For the third day in a row, I wake up in a different state and today I’m back in the First Congressional District of Georgia. My first stop early this morning is at South University School of Pharmacy in Savannah where I meet with representatives from the reaccreditation board.

Next, I head downtown where I attend the Zonta Centennial Women of Excellence Breakfast where they honor Jennifer Graham, founder of Shelter From the Rain Inc, and Chatham County District Attorney Meg Heap for their work in empowering women in our community. Afterwards, I have a phone conference with U.S. Trade Representative Bob Lighthizer to discuss recently implemented tariffs in response to the WTO ruling on Airbus subsidies. Next, I head to Clanton’s River Ranch for the 17th annual Day for Wayne, one of the most anticipated events in Georgia.

Along with numerous public officials including Georgia Governor Brian Kemp, everyone enjoys food, fellowship and activities as we celebrate all the great things Wayne County has to offer. After attending a reception for State Rep. Bill Werkheiser (R-Glennville), I head to Nobles Cabin on the Altamaha River for the Long/Liberty County Law Enforcement Fish Fry where we honor our local law enforcement personnel. My final stop of the day is in Hinesville in Liberty County where I have the honor of addressing the Liberty County Republican Party at their monthly meeting.
Friday, November 8, 2019: For the fourth day in a row I’m in a different city as I fly to Atlanta early this morning for a visit today from President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence. Before the President and Vice President’s arrival, I attend a meeting of the Young Harris College Board of Trustees in downtown Atlanta before heading to the midtown area for the President's arrival. Before the President speaks to a large group of supporters, I join him for a round table discussion with a smaller group of supporters as he brings us up to date on issues including the impeachment process and tariffs. Afterwards, I join the President’s motorcade as we head to the World Congress Center in downtown Atlanta for a Black Voices for Trump Coalition event that is well attended by an enthusiastic group. |
