Trump report card: A+

I’m giving President Trump’s first week in office an A+.

The Trump-Vance administration hit the ground running on day one, signing numerous executive orders that began to undo the damage caused by the Biden-Harris administration. And boy, is there a lot to undo!

Here’s a recap of just some of the ways Trump is already Making America Great Once Again:

  1. He ended the weaponization of our federal government.
  2. He officially established the Department of Government Efficiency.
  3. He declared a national emergency at our southern border and closed it off for illegal immigration.
  4. He sent 1,500 troops to secure our southern border.
  5. He signed a flurry of executive orders ending Biden’s “Green New Deal” initiatives.
  6. He reaffirmed that there are only two genders, male and female.
  7. He forced federal employees still working from home to return to the office.
  8. He eliminated all the federal government’s woke DEI initiatives.
  9. He got rid of Biden’s electric vehicle mandate.
  10. He added transparency to the federal government by declassifying files on the assassinations of JFK, RFK, and MLK Jr.
  11. He preserved consumers’ ability to choose the appliances that work best for them, not for the government.
  12. He withdrew us from the unfair, liberal Paris Climate Accords.
  13. He ended Biden’s disastrous “Catch and Release” policy at our southern border.
  14. He resumed deportation flights for illegal immigrants already in this country.

Folks, this is historic. There are hundreds more executive actions that were taken this week, each one as good if not better than the last.

On top of that, he’s also reenergizing our economy by encouraging businesses to build and grow in the United States. The President announced a $500 billion private sector investment into the United States’ Artificial Intelligence (AI) infrastructure. Not only will this help solidify our nation’s leadership in the AI space, but it will also bring more jobs and investment to the United States. To quote Sam Altman, one of the CEOs behind in the Stargate project, “with a different president, it might not have been possible.”

Like Trump said in his inauguration speech, “In America, the impossible is what we do best.” Already, Trump is doing what the past administration couldn’t – unleashing American energy dominance, securing our southern border, bringing record investments to the United States, and much, much more.

It's a new day in this country, and I’m excited for what tomorrow will bring. Promises made, promises kept!

Buddy's briefing

In this week's edition of Buddy's Briefing, we are discussing President Trump and Vice President JD Vance's Inauguration.

from our nation's capitol cdxci

Monday, January 20, 2025: Today is Inauguration Day and the events leading up to today have been exciting to say the least. After flying back up Saturday morning, Amy and I attended the Peachtree Ball held at Union Station and sponsored by the Georgia State Society, a social nonprofit organization of Georgians and friends of Georgians living in the Washington, D.C. area that was established in 1885. Despite the horrid weather on Sunday, we attended the Georgia State Society Inauguration Brunch in downtown Washington before heading to the Make America Great Again Victory Rally held at the Capital One Arena. Next, we braved the snow and sleet and stopped by the Indian-American Business Titans Reception before heading to the Library of Congress for a celebration with Speaker Mike Johnson and Majority Leader Steve Scalise. Our final stop of a busy day is with our good friends Marty and Cindy Daniel and the Daniel Defense team for an inauguration reception downtown. Because of the dangerously inclement weather- ice and snow and a wind chill factor of -7 degrees- the inauguration has been moved inside to the Capitol Rotunda. Not since 1985 when President Ronald Reagan was sworn in for his second term has the ceremony been held in the Capitol Rotunda. And although requests for inauguration tickets this year far exceeded any other inauguration, the decision to move the historic event inside was obviously the right one. This morning, I join other members of the House of Representatives in the House Chamber as we line up with our different classes in order of seniority before heading to the rotunda where we are seated. This is my third inauguration as I also attended the inauguration of President Trump in 2017 and President Biden in 2021. The ceremony is glorious as we have music by the different military choruses, Christopher Macchio, Lee Greenwood and Carrie Underwood, prayers by six different pastors and a rabbi. The swearing in of Vice President J.D. Vance is performed by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh and of President Donald J. Trump by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Former Presidents in attendance include President Bill Clinton, President George W. Bush, President Barack Obama and President Joe Biden. After being sworn in as our Country’s 47th President, President Trump delivers an inspirational inauguration speech declaring the beginning of the “Golden Age.” Later in the afternoon, Amy and I once again brave the elements and attend the Liberty Ball held at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center downtown where President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump make an appearance. A glorious day indeed!

Tuesday, January 21, 2025: After joining in on an early morning all staff conference call, Amy and I brave the elements again this morning as we attend the National Prayer Service held at the Washington National Cathedral. Started in 1933 with President Franklin D. Roosevelt, this Interfaith Service of Prayer for the Nation is held the day after the inauguration and has been attended by every President since then. Once back on Capitol Hill and in our office, I have a meeting with staff to discuss a constituent issue before having an interview with a Washington correspondent to discuss Pharmacy Benefit Managers (PBMs). Next, I have a series of staff meetings including with our communications staff, district staff, and scheduling staff before heading to Inauguration Media Row in the Cannon Caucus room for interviews. Once back in our office, I join in on an Energy and Commerce (E&C) Health Subcommittee meeting before meeting with our legislative staff and then heading back to the Cannon Rotunda where I have a live interview on NewsNation to discuss Tik Tok. After our weekly Whip Team meeting, I head to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week and afterwards remain in the Chamber to pay tribute to William Fallin from Thomasville who recently passed.

Wednesday, January 22, 2025: After a phone interview with the Tribune-Georgian to discuss funding in the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) for Kings Bay Naval Base, I head off Capitol Hill for our weekly GOP Conference meeting before heading to the Cannon Rotunda for a live Newsmax interview where we discuss news of the day. Next, I head to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to Paula Wallace of the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD) who received the Presidential Citizens Medal, Rev. Wayne Racz who retired from the United Methodist Church, and the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth which has been named Best Museum in Georgia. Afterwards, I head to an E&C Environment Subcommittee meeting before heading back to our office for a phone call with Diane Rinaldo who will be a witness at the E&C Communications and Technology Subcommittee hearing tomorrow. After attending the Republican Governance Group (RG2) meeting, I head back to our office where I meet with outside legal council for the National Community Pharmacist Association (NCPA) before heading to the Ways and Means Committee hearing room where I present legislation. After votes in the House Chamber, I head back to our office where I meet with Patient Rights Advocate Founder and Chair Cynthia Fisher and then head to a Budget Reconciliation meeting where we hear from Committee Chairs. Next, I head back to our office where I meet with E&C Health Subcommittee Ranking Member Diana DeGette (D-CO) before meeting with Form Energy followed by a meeting with my good friend Georgia State Representative Mike Cheokas (R-Americus) who is in town visiting. After heading to the House Chamber for our second and final vote series of the day, I head off Capitol Hill where I speak at the Citizens for Responsible Energy Solutions (CRES) event before heading to our office where I have an interview on “2 Mikes” Rumble show regarding the Fair Tax.

Thursday, January 23, 2025: Our special guest at our weekly GOP Doctor’s Caucus meeting this morning is former Assistant Attorney General Jonathan Kanter who is both a lawyer and Doctor. Afterwards, I head to an E&C C&T Subcommittee hearing on spectrum before heading to a Budget Committee Organizing hearing.  Next, I waive onto a Natural Resources Water, Wildlife and Fisheries Subcommittee hearing where I present HR 261, the Undersea Cable Protection Act of 2025 that I am sponsoring. Once back in our office, I meet with QCells CEO Joe Mendelson before meeting with the American Chiropractic Association and then heading to a meeting with the Budget Committee and House leadership. Next, I head to a bill signing of the recently passed Laken Riley Act with members of the Georgia delegation and House Speaker Mike Johnson before heading to a press conference with the Conservative Climate Caucus (CCC) to discuss our priorities in Budget Reconciliation. Next, I head to the House Chamber for our final vote series of the week and during the drive to the airport, I join in on our all staff conference call.

Did you know?

Jefferson Franklin Long became Georgia’s first African American congressman in 1871.

Born as a slave in Alabama, Long taught himself to read while working in Macon. He later became a Republican leader, and the first black Georgian elected to Congress.

Long made history as the first African American to speak on the House floor, opposing amnesty for former Confederates. Georgia wouldn’t have another black congressman until 1972.
