Surprise, Surprise...Iran Breaks the Rules Again

As you know, earlier this year I voted to reject President Obama's dangerous nuclear deal with Iran because, among other reasons, I did not believe the world's largest leading sponsor of terrorism could be trusted. This week, they proved my belief was correct.

Last Sunday, Iran fire-tested a new generation of surface-to-surface ballistic missile in a blatant violation of a U.N. Security Council resolution. This is yet another example in a long list of proof that Iran has never played by the rules and they won't start now.

This bad deal must be terminated and I am pursuing every possible avenue to ensure this happens. In addition to voting against the deal, I voted to strip the President of his ability to lift economic sanctions on the terrorist regime.  Most recently, I acted to block the Obama Administration from moving forward with the deal until Iran meets its obligations to victims of its terrorist activities.  Iran currently owes its American victims $43.5 billion in court-ordered damages and should not get one cent of sanctions relief until every dime is paid.

What do you think? Do you believe the nuclear deal with Iran should be terminated immediately? Take my poll here to let me know your thoughts.

From our Nation's Capitol XXXIX

Monday, October 12, 2015:  I did something this past weekend that I have never done before- I presided at a wedding.  Jud Seymour, who served as our Campaign Manager and is now our District Director, and his fiancée Audrey Laine Jeffords honored me by asking if I would perform their wedding ceremony.  Of course, I was delighted to do this and, although I hate to admit it, a little nervous.  Nevertheless, we made it through the ceremony and no one got hurt.  This was truly an experience I will always remember. I thank Jud and Audrey Laine for honoring me, and we all wish Mr. & Mrs. Wilson Judson Seymour years of happiness together.  The wedding took place at the First United Methodist Church in Brunswick and I’m back in Glynn County today as I have the opportunity to speak to the Golden Isles Republican Women on Saint Simons Island.

This great group of ladies is led by Ruby Robinson who has been active in politics in Glynn County for many years and does a remarkable job.  Afterwards, I meet with Ben Slade with the Saint Simons Land Trust to get an update on Musgrove Plantation and Fort Frederica.  I am sponsoring legislation that will allow the Fort Frederica National Monument to expand its borders to include the former village of Frederica, which was a thriving village founded by James Oglethorpe around 1740.  Also at the meeting was Gary Ingram, the new Park Manager at Cumberland Island who joins in on this conversation and also updates us on the wild horse situation on Cumberland.   Next, I head to our Brunswick office where I meet with Frank Morris with UPS who is visiting the area from Atlanta and invites me to visit one of their facilities and ride a route with a driver for UPS in the near future.  After meeting with Waycross Judicial Circuit Chief Superior Judge Dwayne Gillis and former Ware County District Attorney Brad Collins, I meet with Glynn County Commission Chairman Dale Provenzano and other Glynn officials about local and federal issues before calling it a day.

Tuesday, October 13, 2015:  Today is Liberty County day, and we start with a visit to Interstate Paper in Riceboro and a tour of Riceboro Southern Railway, LLC.  These two companies work exceptionally well together and provide a great manufacturing facility in our district that provides great jobs for our citizens.  After being briefed on the family owned Interstate Paper facility, I am briefed on Riceboro Sothern Railway and learn of the importance of short line railways.  I also have the opportunity to climb aboard one of their locomotives to see first-hand how they operate and to blow the whistle on a train, something I dreamed of doing as a child.  Next, I head to Hinesville, where I meet with the owners of Holland and Holland, Inc., a construction company in Gumbranch, before heading to a meeting of the Southeast Georgia Pastors Conference where I bring them up to date on the news from Washington.  Next, I visit the beautiful new VA medical clinic where I am led on a tour by Scott Issacks, Regional Director from Charleston, Dr. Johann Herberth, Chief for Primary Care, and Tonya Lobberstael, Public Affairs Officer.  This facility is already paying great dividends for our veterans and will be an asset for years to come.  I finish the day in Savannah as I have the honor of speaking to the Savannah Area Medical Society along with other legislators.  Being the only pharmacist in Congress, health care issues are obviously very important to me, and I enjoy the opportunity to hear from these health care professionals.

Wednesday, October 14, 2015:  It’s very special for me today to have the opportunity to address the Coastal Regional Commission Council of Georgia in Richmond Hill. I had the honor of serving as Chairman of this fine organization when I was the Mayor of Pooler and appreciate the many fine programs that they offer including aging and planning services.  This organization has helped many communities in our region to properly plan for future development and has been, and continues to be, a tremendous resource for us in Pooler.  Afterwards, I head to Savannah where I am the guest speaker at the monthly meeting of the CWA Local 3220 Retired Union Members Club of Telephone Workers.  This wonderful group of hardworking retirees pepper me with great questions about our government, and I thoroughly enjoy my visit.  Next, I visit the Goodwill Corporate Headquarters on Sallie Mood Drive in Savannah to learn more about the great programs they provide to our community before heading downtown to the Federal Courthouse on Bull Street to observe the AbilityOne program.  This program helps people who are blind or have other severe disabilities find employment through nonprofit agencies that contract with the Federal Government.  What a delight to meet these dedicated, hard-working individuals who love and take great pride in their work.  I finish the day with a meeting with members of the Savannah Homebuilders Association.  While all professions suffer from the intrusion of government overreach, this group has been particularly hard hit.

Thursday, October 15, 2015:  I spend most of my day today at our district office in Savannah meeting with constituents.  Our Savannah district office is located in the Landmark building at 6600 Abercorn Street while our Brunswick district office is located at 1510 Newcastle Street, Suite 200.  We have a great staff at both offices, and I try to schedule as many days as possible to meet with constituents when I am in the district.  Among the people I meet with today are David Ball from Statesboro, whose family owns property on Cumberland Island, and Russell Jacobs who lives on Saint Simons but has an insurance office in Savannah.  Finally, I meet with representatives from Georgia Southern University and Georgia Power who are hosting Congressional staff this week for a tour of our area.

Friday, October 16, 2015:  I’m in Camden County at Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base today as I have the honor of speaking to the Georgia Military Officers Association of America (GMOAA) at their annual convention.

As I update this great group of military leaders about defense issues in our country, including the A-10 and Ohio class replacement submarine situation, I am reminded of the wonderful work they do in serving our country.  Next, I head down to Jacksonville to WJXT where I meet with the General Manager, Bob Ellis, and Producer, Tracy Gaffney, to discuss issues in South Georgia.  The Jacksonville television market covers many areas of South Georgia, including Brunswick and Waycross.  After taping an interview with news anchor Kent Justice, I head back to Saint Simons Island where Amy and I have a delightful visit with Bill and Ethelynn Stuckey.  Bill Stuckey is the former owner of Stuckey’s and served in the U.S. House from 1967-1977 for the 8th District of Georgia.  The stories of his experiences while serving in Congress fascinate me, and I thoroughly enjoy our time together.
