SAVING OUR SHRIMPERS It’s no secret that Georgia’s shrimpers are struggling to stay in business due to foreign imported shrimp that continues to saturate the market through unfair trade practices. Not only is the price of foreign shrimp artificially lowered to undercut domestic producers, but it is also harvested in an unsustainable way, making it a product that is more harmful to the environment and personal health than its American-sourced equivalent. In fact, the price manipulation has gotten so bad that shrimpers can’t even cover the cost of their fishing trip with the profits from their harvest. These are the kinds of inequities that President Trump is seeking to address through his tariff policies, and we are already seeing results from his America First leadership. For the first time in a long time, domestic shrimpers are able to compete on a level playing field, and with a superior product, this vital industry for our coast is stronger than ever.   But, we can’t take our foot off the gas now. We must continue to promote longstanding policies to prop up our shrimpers, who provide an important resource that our nation enjoys daily. President Trump took the bold and necessary step of signing an executive order strengthening the U.S. fishing industry and restoring American seafood competitiveness. Now, it’s time for Congress to act. I am proud to support the Save Our Shrimpers Act, a bill introduced by my friend and colleague Rep. Troy Nehls. This important piece of legislation will prohibit any U.S. taxpayer funds from being used by international financial institutions to finance any foreign shrimp farming, processing, or exporting. Frankly, this is commonsense; our taxpayer dollars should benefit us here at home, not help put our shrimpers out of business. We are literally paying for our own jobs to be wiped away, and it must end. On top of that, this bill will also direct the U.S. Government Accountability Office (GAO) to produce a written report as to whether these requirements have been followed, adding an important layer of accountability and transparency. It’s one thing to pass a good bill, but it’s another to make sure that it is enforced. This provision will make sure that the Save Our Shrimpers Act has teeth. Passing this bill is an important step towards protecting the American worker.  We must stop China and other bad actors from putting hardworking men and women along Georgia’s coast out of business. I am calling on Congress to quickly bring this bill up for a vote so that we can codify some of the progress President Trump has already made to protect our shrimpers and ensure that this industry, which is a key part of our district’s culture, is preserved for generations to come. To our shrimpers – thank you for your hard work to feed the world!

SAVING OUR SHRIMPERS

It’s no secret that Georgia’s shrimpers are struggling to stay in business due to foreign imported shrimp that continues to saturate the market through unfair trade practices.

ICYMI: CARTER LAUNCHES CAUCUS TO PROMOTE MEDICINE PRODUCTION IN AMERICA

A congressional caucus focused on bringing pharmaceutical manufacturing to US shores will launch Thursday as Republicans seek to further the Trump administration’s goals of boosting medicine production in America.

Rep. Buddy Carter (R-Ga.), health chair on the House Energy and Commerce Committee, will announce the American-Made Medicines Caucus along with Reps. Claudia Tenney (R-N.Y.) and Gus Bilirakis (R-Fla.). The group of lawmakers will focus on ways to bring the pharmaceutical supply chain to the US and be less dependent on nations like China for pharmaceutical products.

“China determines whether we have the pharmaceutical products we need in the United States to keep our citizens healthy,” said Carter in a press release. “That is a terrifying reality, one we must address before the next public health crisis.”

Carter has had a long-term focus on prescription drug production. The new caucus replaces the Domestic Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Caucus he established in 2022 to help address supply chain disruptions. He introduced in 2023 bipartisan legislation that would have established tax credits to incentivize domestic manufacturing of active pharmaceutical ingredients, personal protective equipment, and diagnostics.

President Donald Trump has identified increasing domestic manufacturing of pharmaceutical drugs as a key goal...

THE RESULTS ARE IN...

ICYMI: CARTER BILL WOULD CEMENT TRUMP'S ENERGY COUNCIL

A House Republican is working to make the administration’s National Energy Dominance Council a permanent fixture in the federal government.

Georgia Rep. Buddy Carter, a senior member of the Energy and Commerce Committee, introduced legislation last week that would codify President Donald Trump’s
energy advisory committee in law by establishing a new executive branch office to house the group.

Trump established the energy council by executive order in February. The language in Carter’s legislation echoes that of Trump’s directive.

“President Trump’s visionary leadership allowed for the creation of this council that, frankly, should have existed a while ago,” Carter said in a statement. “By
codifying the executive order into law, we will protect this critical council from future radical left administrations that want to see our nation energy dependent.”

The “National Energy Dominance Council Act,” H.R. 2926, would spell out the council’s membership and require the panel to “exercise the authority of the president to produce more energy to make the United States energy dominant.”

Trump created the council to design a “National Energy Dominance Strategy” aimed at “improving” permitting, production, distribution and transportation of "all forms of
American energy."

The council is supposed to facilitate cooperation between the federal government and private energy producers...

REMEMBERING POPE FRANCIS

The world recently lost a monumental figure of faith, compassion, and leadership. Pope Francis passed away after more than a decade of service as the head of the Catholic Church, leaving behind a powerful legacy of mercy and care for the most vulnerable.

Pope Francis's work touched millions of lives. His leadership inspired not only Catholics but people of all faiths across the globe.

Please join me in praying for his family, our Catholic friends and neighbors, and all who are impacted by the loss of this spiritual giant.

The Battle of Bloody Marsh on July 7, 1742, saved Georgia from becoming a Spanish colony. Outnumbered, James Oglethorpe and his troops defeated the Spanish on St. Simon’s Island. The victory kept Georgia under British control and ended Spain’s major threats to the colony.
