House-Passed Measure Directs Modernization of Hunter Army Airfield Hangars

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (Ga-01) supported legislation that provides for the modernization of aging combat hangars at Hunter Army Airfield in Savannah, Georgia.

"The 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade consistently outperforms its counterparts despite being in the oldest hangars in the army's inventory," Carter said. "I've seen these dilapidated structures firsthand and know they cannot fully accommodate the needs of our troops.

"The current hangars are not even capable of protecting their aircrafts when a storm hits Coastal Georgia. I fought for this language because it's time for the facilities to match the outstanding quality of fine young service members and the aircraft they command."

As part of the the Fiscal Year 2017 Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations bill which was approved by the United States House of Representatives today, the Army is mandated with creating a plan to modernize or replace hangars like those at Hunter Army Airfield. In total, the legislation provides $81.6 billion in funding to house, train, and equip military personnel, provide housing and services to military families, and help maintain base infrastructure. The bill also funds veterans' benefits and programs.
