Never miss an opportunity to thank those who wear the uniform

Yesterday, Military Appreciation Day came and went, but the gratitude and respect we hold for the brave men and women of our Armed Forces endure every single day.

Simply put, the freedoms and opportunities we enjoy as Americans exist because of generations of servicemembers who stepped forward. We should never miss an opportunity to thank those who wear the uniform.

That’s why House Republicans remain focused on our veterans: honoring the promises made to them, protecting the benefits they earned, and fulfilling our responsibility to ensure Washington never treats them as an afterthought.

Last week, appropriations season for Fiscal Year 2027 began with the passage of the Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs funding bill. We renewed our commitment to support those who served by fully funding veterans’ health care and benefits, supporting mental health and suicide prevention, funding Community Care, and investing in VA medical facilities.

In Georgia’s First District, we are fortunate to be home to multiple military installations, including Fort Stewart, Hunter Army Airfield, and Kings Bay Naval Submarine Base, which deeply connect military and civilian life throughout our communities. Through these investments, veterans will receive the attention and care they need as they start the next chapter of civilian life.

This bill also includes key America First priorities, funding the construction of Indo-Pacific military installations, and hefty upgrades to advanced weapon systems that maintain the United States’ status as the world’s most advanced and lethal fighting force.

I’m proud to stand with President Trump and his administration in prioritizing servicemembers, veterans, and military families who have sacrificed more than most of us can comprehend.

From Our Nation’s Capitol

Monday, May 11, 2026: Saturday, I was honored to be in Senoia, located Southwest of Atlanta, where I spoke at the Coweta County GOP at their monthly meeting. Founded in 1860 by Rev. Francis Warren Baggarly, Senoia was officially incorporated as a city on December 12, 1866. Coweta County was named for a sub-group of the Creek people, the Koweta Indians, who had several towns in and around the present-day county. After a great visit, I headed further North and West to Breman in Haralson and Carroll Counties where I visited my friends at Breman Pharmacy. Breman is one of many cities in the State of Georgia that is located in more than one county. Originally named Kramer, after a German immigrant who owned a local vineyard, it was renamed to honor Bremen, Germany at Kramer’s request. Next, I headed further north to Rome in Floyd County where I had the honor of speaking to members of the Floyd County GOP. Interestingly, Rome was named when a group of veterans of the War of 1812 held a drawing to determine the name and Col. Daniel R. Mitchell’s submission of Rome was chosen. Col Mitchell submitted the name of Rome because of the area’s hills and rivers. Afterwards, I headed back east to Atlanta where I attended The Center for Family Resources Gala in Cobb County. This non-profit founded in 1960 works to prevent homelessness and help families achieve long-term stability through housing assistance, financial support, and educational services. On Sunday, I had the honor of worshipping at First Baptist Church Atlanta at both of their morning services. And what a great experience it was! This major Southern Baptist Church, known for its large membership, expansive campus, and global reach through television and digital ministry, rose to national prominence under long time pastor Charles Stanley.  Today, I am honored to speak at the Henry County Rotary Club in McDonough south of metro Atlanta where I bring them up to date on Washington issues. While McDonough was named for naval office Commodore Thomas Macdonough, Henry County was named for Patrick Henry. Once back in downtown Atlanta, I have an interview with Fox News to discuss the Senate race. Next, I head east to Athens where I have the honor of speaking to the Athens-Clark County GOP at their monthly meeting and afterwards drive to Savannah.

Tuesday, May 12, 2026: My day starts in Pooler in West Chatham County where I visit Chatterbox Pediatrics, a pediatric therapy clinic whose mission is to empower children from birth to 21 to reach their fullest potential whether through communication skills, motor development, or emotional regulation. Next, I head to WTOC TV in Savannah where I have an interview to discuss news of the day before having a meeting with a constituent to discuss cryptocurrency issues. After joining in on our all staff conference call, I head to the Savannah airport for my return flight to Washington. Once back in DC, I head downtown to a Fox Sports kickoff gala in honor of the Fifa World Cup before heading to a meeting off Capitol Hill with representatives from Dollar Tree. Once back at the Capitol, I head to a Whip Team meeting before heading to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week. After votes, I pay tribute to the Trolio brothers who helped their golf team at Ole Miss University win the 2026 SEC Championship held at the Sea Island Golf Club in St. Simons Island, Georgia. Next, I head to the Plaza steps at the Capitol and join my House colleagues for a Police Week Prayer Vigil before heading to a Republican Main Street Caucus (RMSC) meeting where we hear from US Secret Service Director Sean Curran who brings us up to date on the administration’s funding request for security upgrades.

Wednesday, May 13, 2026: After attending a Healthcare Freedom Fund meeting off Capitol Hill, I head to our weekly GOP Conference meeting before having an interview with Fox News to discuss next week’s Senate primary. Once back on Capitol Hill, I head to an Energy and Commerce (E&C) Energy Subcommittee hearing on electricity transmission before heading to our office for a meeting with the American Hotel and Lodging Association (AHLA) followed by a meeting with our communications staff. After a meeting with our legislative staff, I have a meeting with Rich Products Corporation (RPC) to discuss seafood trade and affordability issues. RPC owns SeaPak Shrimp & Seafood based in St. Simons Island in Glynn County where it contributes to the regional economy and maintains close ties to the coastal seafood industry. Next, I meet with MEAG Power’s President & CEO and members of the Board before meeting with NORPAC, a volunteer citizen advocacy group focusing on strengthening the US-Israel relationship and combating antisemitism. After heading to an E&C Health Subcommittee markup, I return to my office and meet with the Georgia Bankers Association followed by New Season CEO Jim Shaheen regarding opioid addiction treatment. After returning from our first vote series of the day, I have  a meeting with our scheduling staff. Next, I head back to the House Chamber for our second and last vote series of the day.

Rep. Carter meets with National Association of Hotels

Thursday, May 14, 2026: It’s hard to say whether I have stayed up late or whether I’m up early, but it’s 1 a.m. and I’m at the Fox studios and on live for an interview to discuss President Trump’s visit to China. After grabbing a few hours of sleep, I head off Capitol Hill for breakfast with Irresistible Food Group (IFG) President John Linehan, King’s Hawaiian President Patrick Meehan, and their colleague Luis Manta. IFG is a great American company that produces the aforementioned King’s Hawaiian rolls in Gainesville as well as Grillo’s Pickles and Killer Brownies. Next I head to an E&C Environment Subcommittee markup. Once back in our office, I have a meeting with Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) followed by a meeting with a constituent from Richmond Hill in Bryan County who is in the Air Force and stationed at Andrews Air Force Base. Next I meet with Sceye, an aerospace company that uses a High-Altitude Platform System (HAPS) to use for wildfire detection and response. Then I head to an E&C member meeting before meeting with Ambassador Kulminski of Moldova. Afterwards, I head downtown to the CBS studios where I have an interview with Major Garrett to discuss the Senate race. Once back on Capitol Hill, I head to the House Chamber for votes before heading off Capitol Hill for a Conservative Climate Action meeting and an interview with NBC to discuss the Senate election. Later, I head back to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to a number of individuals and groups during a special order.

Rep. Carter on Fox News at Night

Friday, May 15, 2026: I’m up early and at the Fox Studios downtown as I have a live interview on Fox Business on Mornings with Maria. Once back on Capitol Hill, I head to an E&C member meeting before heading to the House Chamber for our final vote series of the week. Next, I head to the Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) at the Capitol for a classified briefing with White House staff on critical minerals. Once back in our office, I film this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefings before heading to the airport for a flight to Atlanta. During the drive, I have a call with our Chief of Staff and District Director. Once in Atlanta, I have a phone interview with a reporter with the New York Times before having a virtual interview with Newsmax to discuss the Senate race.

Did You Know?

Most of us know the Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport is the busiest airport in the world, but did you know it was originally built on the site of an abandoned auto racetrack called the Atlanta Speedway? The old racetrack’s layout even helped shape the airport’s original runways.
