This week on buddy's briefing |
This week on Buddy's Briefing, I discuss House Democrat's reckless decision to open a formal impeachment inquiry into the President of the United States. I've read the transcript of the telephone call between President Trump and the president of Ukraine as well as the whistleblower report. There is absolutely no reason for impeachment and there is no "smoking gun." It's disappointing my colleagues on the other side of the aisle continue these attacks on our president while we should be doing the business of the American people.

Monday, September 23, 2019: I start off in our Savannah office this morning and have a delightful meeting with a student seeking her doctorate degree as a nurse practitioner to discuss health care policy, including access to health care and cost of care and prescriptions. Next, I have a meeting with Lyndsey Rudder, a former Savannahian who lives in the Atlanta area now and will be a candidate for a vacant state appellate court seat.

Afterwards, I head to Brunswick in Glynn County where I meet with Bruce Fendig with the Brunswick Bar Pilots Association to discuss the situation in the Brunswick Harbor following the grounding of the Golden Ray roro vessel. Later, I host a roundtable meeting at the Brunswick-Golden Isles Chamber of Commerce office with community stakeholders interested in bringing together resources for homeless individuals in the area. Homelessness, particularly veteran homelessness, is a serious problem in our district and in our nation, and it will take all of us working together to alleviate the problem. This well attended meeting gives us a great opportunity to help the different groups become more aware of each other and learn of each other’s abilities and goals.
Tuesday, September 24, 2019: After an early flight to Washington this morning, I spend most of my morning catching up on office work before my first meeting with Greg Kelly, Executive Director of the Savannah-Hilton Head International Airport. On Thursday of this week we will be considering a bill in the Energy and Commerce (E&C) Committee Environment Subcommittee dealing with a group of chemicals, PFAS, that could potentially adversely impact the airport. Following our weekly staff briefing, I meet with representatives from the Biotechnology Innovation Organization before meeting with representatives from the Federal Bureau of Prisons including some members from the Jesup prison. Next, I meet with representatives from the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) GA followed by a meeting with members of the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai who, as one would imagine, are very concerned about the tariff situation with China. During the day there has been much speculation that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) would be calling for a formal impeachment inquiry into President Trump’s communications with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. During my meetings this afternoon, the Speaker has acknowledged she would be moving forward with this. After a meeting with Nutritional-Specialties representatives to discuss the development of a prototype formula and delivery system that would eliminate severe malnutrition in children at home and abroad, I film a video addressing the impeachment announcement. A link to that video can be found here.

Afterwards, I have a meeting with the Savannah Chapter of the Independent Freight Forwarders and Customs Brokers Association before heading to an E&C member meeting to discuss the prescription drug pricing plan that has been proposed by Speaker Pelosi. Next, I head to our weekly Whip Team meeting after which I head to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the week and afterwards, I pay tribute to Harry Sweezey. A link to my tribute can be found here.
Wednesday, September 25, 2019: Things are certainly abuzz in Washington this morning and I begin with a series of radio interviews at the Federation for American Immigration Reform (FAIR) Radio Row broadcasts in downtown Washington. First, I have an interview with my good friend Scott James with Talk 92.1 in Valdosta. Although we briefly talk about immigration issues, much of our discussion is on the topic at hand - the impeachment inquiries into President Trump.

Afterwards, I have an interview with Rose Tennent with WSYL News Power 1040 regarding a number of issues, but again dominated by the news of the day - the Presidential impeachment inquiries. Once back at the Capitol, I head to our weekly GOP Conference meeting and afterwards head to the House Chamber where I pay tribute to former Savannah State University President Cyrus Wiley, the Georgia Air National Guard, EMD Performance Materials and World Pharmacists Day. A link to my tributes can be found here, here, here and here. Next, I head to an E&C Health Subcommittee hearing on prescription drug pricing. A link to my questions can be found here. Afterwards, I head back to the House Chamber for our first vote series of the day and then head to a members only bipartisan counterintelligence briefing before heading back to my office for a conference call with community pharmacists. Next, I have a live interview on MSNBC with my friend Ali Velshi to discuss the impeachment inquiries. A link to my interview can be found here.

After returning to my office, I meet with representatives from the Golf Industry in the State of Georgia before having a phone interview with WSAV TV in Savannah regarding the impeachment inquiries. Next, I have a series of office meetings beginning with representatives from EMD Serono and followed by representatives from Interfaith Working Group on Foreign Assistance, including Pooler resident Jared Brown. After a meeting with representatives from Rayonier, including my good friend Charlie Hood, I have an on-camera interview with WTOC TV in Savannah to discuss the impeachment inquiries. Next, I head to the House Chamber where we have our second vote series of the day and afterwards, I head downtown where I speak at the Managed Health Care Associates (MHA) conference.
Thursday, September 26, 2019: I’m always glad to talk to my good friend Bill Edwards with WTKS news radio 1290 in Savannah and this morning we have plenty to talk about with the impeachment inquiries. Later, I have a live interview on National Public Radio (NPR) to discuss the impeachment inquiries and then head to an E&C Environment Subcommittee markup. Afterwards, I have a conference call with the American Pharmacy Cooperative, Inc., before heading to the Cannon Rotunda where I have an on-camera interview with the BBC on the impeachment inquiries. Next, I head to a Select Committee on Climate Change hearing on Industrial Emissions. A link to my questions can be found here. Following a phone call with Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Chairman Ajit Pai to discuss proposed FCC rule changes, I have a radio interview with Georgia Public Radio (GPB) on the impeachment inquiries before taping this week’s episode of Buddy’s Briefings in the Rayburn Room in the Capitol.

Next, I head to a House Energy Action Team (HEAT) meeting in the Capitol followed by our first and only vote series of the day. After votes, I remain in the House Chamber and pay tribute to Dr. Lucy Greene from Valdosta, truly one of the most dedicated public servants I have ever known. A link to my tribute to this special lady can be found here.
Friday, September 27, 2019: This morning I’m in the House Chamber as I speak on National Clean Energy Week across America this week. A link to my comments can be found here. After returning to my office where I catch up on some work before we start a two-week district work schedule, I return to the House Chamber for our last vote series of the week. Later, I head to the airport for my return trip home and once I arrive in Savannah, I head straight to the Benedictine-Savannah High School football game where I perform the coin toss for this traditional rivalry.

Rep. Carter talks with players before the game |
Later, I’m also able to make it to the Brunswick High School-New Hampstead football game in Pooler that turns out to be an exciting game with Brunswick pulling out a victory in the second half.
