Remembering 41
This week, a grateful nation honored and remembered our 41st president, President George H.W. Bush.

President Bush lived a life dedicated to our great nation. Looking back on his life, it's truly remarkable to see how many ways he served our nation. He was a pilot in the Navy and he flew combat missions in World War II. He went on to represent his home in Congress then served as Ambassador to the United Nations, Chief of the U.S. Liaison Office in China and Director of the Central Intelligence Agency. Finally, he served as Vice President then President of the United States.

It's easy to see that he will leave a legacy of leadership and service that will inspire Americans forever. However, even more honorable than his service to our nation was his dedication and love for his family and beloved wife Barbara.

I believe his son, President George W. Bush, said it best when he said, "Dad taught us that public service is noble and necessary; that one can serve with integrity and hold true to the important values, like faith and family. He strongly believed that it was important to give back to the community and country in which one lived. He recognized that serving others enriched the giver's soul. To us, his was the brightest of a thousand points of light."

Votes in the House were canceled this week as Americans from across the nation paid their respects to the president in the United States Capitol. In the Capitol, President Bush's casket laid upon the catafalque constructed in 1865 for President Abraham Lincoln as he laid in state.

Pearl Harbor remembrance Ceremony
Each year on December 7 we honor and remember those who lost their lives and all those who served our country during the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Earlier this week, I was honored to participate in a Pearl Harbor Remembrance Ceremony in Pooler at the National Museum of the Mighty Eighth Air Force.

We will never forget those who fought and sacrificed so much for our freedom that day.
