My State of the Union Guest: An American Hero
Friends,

On Tuesday night, I had the privilege of attending President Donald J. Trump's first State of the Union Address. To make this historic night even better, I had the honor of attending with an American hero.

My State of the Union guest this year was Winston Hencely from Effingham County. While serving in the Army in Afghanistan, Winston was critically injured when a suicide bomber ignited a suicide vest at Bagram Airfield.

Amy and I visited Winston at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center after he returned to America. The progress he has made since that first visit is remarkable and I couldn't be more thrilled.

Here are a few of my favorite moments from the special day:

We visited the Speaker's Balcony in Speaker Paul Ryan's office. In my opinion, this is the best view in Washington.

Winston spoke with his senators, Senator Johnny Isakson and Senator David Perdue.

Winston met Speaker of the House Paul D. Ryan.

...then they discovered they both love dogs!

We visited the rotunda in the United States Capitol.

And Winston ended the trip with a visit to the White House.

Thanks for joining me, Winston! You are a hero and an inspiration to us all. And thank you to all our brave servicemembers who selflessly serve our great nation.

- Buddy
