Pelosi's partisan wish list
This week, I voted against Speaker Pelosi's backroom, partisan spending bill. Instead of working together for the country, Nancy Pelosi and her allies crafted a $3 trillion partisan spending bill behind closed doors filled with anti-work provisions, get-out-of-jail free cards, money for illegal immigrants and sanctuary cities, and big changes to election laws.

This was nothing more than a shameful show vote as this legislation has no chance of becoming law. Americans are suffering, and we need to deliver relief. Now is the time to focus on solutions for the serious problems facing our nation, not on partisan boondoggles.

I discussed this legislation and the need to hold China accountable on Fox Business this week.

from our nation's capitol CCLXVI
Monday, May 11, 2020:  I’m up early this morning and on my way to Cogdell in Clinch County for a farm business visit.  During the drive, I have several conference calls including our daily all-staff conference call.  Once in Clinch County, I am joined by Thressea Boyd, editor of South Georgia Business & Culture Magazine, as we are led on a tour of Cogdell Berry Farm, a family farm that has been in existence since 1913.  Operated by my good friend Russ Goodman and his lovely wife Carra, Cogdell Berry Farm started growing blueberries in 2000 and now has over 500 acres in production along with a packing plant with state-of-the-art equipment including a laser counter and color sorter.

Rep. Carter visits Cogdell Berry Farm
After a great visit and tour, I have an Energy and Commerce (E&C) Consumer Protection and Commerce (CPAC) Subcommittee conference call with special guest Joseph J. Simons, Chairman of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) who briefs us on the FTC’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic.  Next, I head to Lee Container in Homerville where I visit with my good friends, Robert Varnedoe and Jeff Brown, to learn about their success in being awarded a Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loan.  Next, I head to a vegetable farm in Clinch County operated by Josh Carter to learn more about his operation before heading back to Homerville to visit one of our fine rural hospitals in the First District, Clinch County Hospital.  Under the leadership of administrator Angela Ammons, Clinch County Hospital has transformed into a profitable operation with a positive future.

Tuesday, May 12, 2020:  After our daily all-staff conference call this morning, I’m on the road again as I head to St. Simons Island in Glynn County where I meet with the Coast Guard Unified Command for an update on the Golden Ray salvage operation.  The Unified Command is headed up by the U.S. Coast Guard’s Norm Witt, Gallagher Marine System’s Chris Graff and John Maddox from the Georgia Environmental Protection Division (EPD).  They are assisted by a great crew of dedicated and qualified personnel working on the project.  Although slowed some from the COVID-19 pandemic, preparations for the project are progressing well and the detail with which these professionals are practicing is very impressive.

Rep. Carter visits Glynn County's new Veterans Memorial Park
Next, I head to Glynn County’s new Veterans Memorial Park, a beautiful 3.5 acre green space located in downtown Brunswick and featuring a 4,500 sf monument plaza.  Once at the park, I am joined by Glynn County Commission Chair Mike Browning who is beaming with pride as he takes me on a tour of the SPLOST project.  Afterwards, I head to our Brunswick office where I have a Zoom conference call with Georgia Life Alliance members as we discuss pro-life legislation and issues before Congress.  Next, I record a video with the Taxpayers Protection Alliance and describe to them legislation that I introduced to hold China and the World Health Organization (WHO) accountable for their actions trying to cover up the COVID-19 pandemic origin.

Rep. Carter visits the Golden Ray wreckage
Afterwards, I head to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) headquarters near the Sidney Lanier Bridge where we take a boat out to the Golden Ray wreckage for a close-up view of the ongoing operations.  Once back at our Brunswick office, I join in on a Doctors Caucus conference call where we discuss the repatriation of pharmaceutical manufacturers back to the U.S.  Before heading back to Savannah, I have a GOP member conference call where we discuss returning to DC later this week for votes that are scheduled.

Wednesday, May 13, 2020:  I’m in the Savannah office this morning as we have an E&C Health Subcommittee conference call to discuss tomorrows hearing where one of our witnesses will be the former Director of the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA), Dr. Rick Bright, who has filed a whistleblower complaint after he was recently removed from that position.  Afterwards, I join in on a Whip Team conference call where we discuss the votes that are to be taken later this week.  After our daily all-staff conference call, I have a Zoom conference call with BICEP, the policy arm of Ceres, a non-profit organization that works with some of the world’s leading companies to address challenges to the economy such as sustainability, climate change and pollution.  Later, I head to the airport for my flight to Washington.

Thursday, May 14, 2020:  I’m back in my Washington office this morning and I join an Aspen Institute Zoom conference call where we hear from the Mayor of Louisville, KY, Greg Fischer to get his perspective, and that of a Mayor, of the health and economic impacts of COVID-19.  Next, we have our daily all-staff conference call followed by an E&C member conference call to discuss our upcoming Health Subcommittee meeting this morning.

Rep. Carter on the way to the Health Subcommittee meeting
Next, I head down to the E&C hearing room where we are all wearing masks, practicing social distancing and wiping our equipment with sterile wipes.  We have two witnesses today, the first is the afore mentioned Dr. Rick Bright.  A link to my questions of the former BARDA director can be found here.  Our next witness is Michael Bowen, the Executive Vice President of Prestige Ameritech of North Richland Hills, TX.  Mr. Bowen has the ability and equipment in his business to produce N-95 masks but refuses to do so unless he gets an exclusive, long term contract from the federal government.  A link to my questions can be found here.  Once back in my office, I have a conference call with Liberty County leadership to discuss their issues as a result of COVID-19 before heading to the Russell Rotunda on the Senate side for a live interview with Fox Business to discuss China and the partisan Pelosi package we will be voting on tomorrow.

Rep. Carter appears on Fox Business
A link to my interview can be found here.  Once back in my office, I have a phone interview with the Christian Science Monitor to discuss the Ahmaud Arbery shooting in Brunswick.  My last event of a very busy day is a GOP Conference call to discuss the China Communist Party and their political warfare and worldwide disinformation efforts.

Friday, May 15, 2020:  I’m up and in the Fox studios very early this morning as I have a 4:15 live interview on Fox and Friends First where I discuss China and today’s partisan Pelosi package vote.  A link to my interview can be found here.  Later in the morning we have our all-staff conference call and afterwards, I head to the House Chamber where we have our first vote of the day.  As was the case a few weeks ago when we voted on relief package 3.5, we vote in groups so that we limit the number of members in the Chamber at any one time.

Rep. Carter speaks with reporters at the U.S. Capitol
After the vote, I head to the Capitol Plaza where I have an on-camera interview with WSAV TV in Savannah to discuss the Health Subcommittee hearing yesterday and today’s vote on the partisan Pelosi relief package.  After returning to the House Chamber for our second vote of the day, I head back to the Plaza and record this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing.  Next, I head back to my office where I work at my desk until I have a Skype interview with WTOC TV in Savannah to discuss the partisan Pelosi relief package.  Next, I have a Trump Administration briefing on the COVID-19 response where we hear from representatives from various agencies within the Administration.  Afterwards, I work in my office until we have three more separate votes between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m.
