115 Americans
We are losing 115 Americans a day to an opioid overdose. We cannot sit idly by as this epidemic takes more parents, sons, daughters, friends and neighbors.

It is plaguing our nation and no community is safe.

That is why my committee, the Energy and Commerce Committee, has been working aggressively since last October on a legislative package to combat this epidemic. This bipartisan effort resulted in sending 57 bills to the House floor.

These bills combat the opioid crisis through treatment and recovery, prevention, protecting communities, and fighting fentanyl.

This week, the House passed three bills that I introduced as part of this effort.

My bills make it easier to treat addiction through telemedicine, examine barriers for patients with chronic pain to abuse deterrent medications, and work to better educate pharmacists on when they are allowed by law to decline to fill a prescription for a controlled substance – this includes suspicion of fraud, forgery, or other forms of alteration.

There is no single answer to solving this crisis, but these bills along with many others that were passed by the House this week will make strong strides towards ending this epidemic.
