America's twenty-year war in Afghanistan ended on Monday, August 30, 2021, one of the worst foreign relations debacles in the history of our nation.
As we continue to mourn for the 13 U.S. servicemembers killed and pray for their loved ones, we know their service was not in vain. They have kept the American people safe for over two decades. We thank them, we honor them and we will never forget them.
Hundreds of Americans have been left behind enemy lines and now are effectively hostages of the Taliban. This is unamerican and unacceptable.
President Biden has demonstrated that he is incapable of leading this nation. He should resign. If he refuses to do so, he must be impeached.
The truth is, the failures of President Biden aren’t limited to just Afghanistan. In less than a year, Joe Biden has added trillions of dollars to our nation’s debt causing record levels of inflation, which is both a tax increase and a pay cut to working class families.
He’s kept millions of people out of work by paying them to stay home. He’s created a crisis at our southern border by broadcasting that he no longer intended to enforce our nation’s immigration laws, resulting in over 1 million illegal border crossings.
And from his first day in office, Joe Biden has ended American energy independence, forcing us to be reliant on foreign governments for our energy needs.
I will hold President Biden and his administration accountable. The American people deserve better than Joe Biden as their President.

Monday, August 30, 2021: I’m on my way to Brunswick in Glynn County this morning and during the drive I have a call with officials from the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) to discuss the increase in shipping costs that many businesses have been experiencing. During the August recess, I have been visiting businesses in the district and many have expressed their concern with the supply chain, particularly the prices associated with essential goods. Understandably, the increase in demand combined with shortages have made for stress in the supply chain, resulting in higher prices, particularly in the shipping business. Once at our Brunswick district office, I have a live interview on Yahoo Finance where I discuss the worse foreign relations debacle in the history of our nation that is taking place in Afghanistan as well as the Democrats proposed $3.5 trillion socialist wish list that is being a charade for an infrastructure package. A link to my interview can be found here.
|
Next, I head to the Brunswick Country Club where I participate in 2021 Clean and Green Golf Tournament benefiting Keep Golden Isles Beautiful. An affiliate of Keep America Beautiful and Keep Georgia Beautiful Foundation, this community-based educational organization features volunteers who contribute over 14,000 hours annually in Keep Golden Isles Beautiful programs and initiatives. Established in 1979, this great initiative has been recognized with both State and National awards.

Tuesday, August 31, 2021: Members of our Washington staff are in the district this week and this morning they meet me on Tybee Island in Chatham County for a visit with officials from Georgia Tech, Chatham Emergency Management Agency (CEMA), and Tybee Island to learn more about the smart sea level sensors program. This network of internet-enabled sea level sensors reports real-time data on coastal flooding that will be used for emergency planning and response.

Afterward, I head to our Savannah district office where I have a live interview on WABE, National Public Radio’s (NPR) local Atlanta radio station. Today, I am a guest on the midday program, Closer Look with Rose Scott to discuss the worst foreign relations debacle in the history of our nation taking place in Afghanistan. A link to my interview can be found here. Next, I join in on a GOP member conference call for an update on Afghanistan before joining in on a virtual call with CivcaRX, a pharmaceutical manufacturer that partners with healthcare systems to ensure that generic drugs are affordable and available as soon as possible. This innovative company was created to reduce and prevent drug shortages and the price spikes that can accompany them.
|
Afterward, I have a great meeting in our office with Dr. Kavanaugh Chandler, who has taken over as CEO of Community Health Services in McIntosh and Glynn Counties. Dr. Chandler brings an impressive combination of extensive experience and enthusiasm and has already started planning for more services to this much needed public asset. Next, I head to downtown Savannah where, along with staff from the district and Washington, I meet with staff from the Savannah Chamber of Commerce for an update on the exciting plans for the “Hostess City of The South.”

Wednesday, September 1, 2021: I’m up early this morning for a live hit on Fox and Friends First as we discuss the worst foreign relations debacle in the history of our nation taking place in Afghanistan. A link to my interview can be found here. Later in the morning, I head to Fort Stewart in Liberty County where staff and I meet with leadership for an update on current missions as well as the progress they are making dealing with COVID 19. After a great meeting and tour of some of their newest fighting equipment, I join in on our all-staff conference call while on my way to Meals on Wheels at Senior Citizens, Inc, in Savannah, a program that was launched sixty years ago and today serves over 2,000 home-delivered and group-setting meals daily. After speaking to the media, I am honored to deliver meals and delighted to meet a lady who has lived in Savannah for many years and is originally from Murphy, N.C., near where I went to school at Young Harris, GA.

Once back at our Savannah district office, I join in on a Select Committee on Climate Change briefing with members of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPPC). Afterward, I meet with a constituent from Tybee Island to discuss Short Term Vacation Rentals (STVR) before joining in on an Energy and Commerce (E&C) member call to discuss our upcoming budget reconciliation markup. My last call of the day is a White House bipartisan member briefing on the worst foreign relations debacle in the history of our Nation taking place in Afghanistan.

Thursday, September 2, 2021: As most of you know, the coast of Georgia is my home, where I have lived all my life and where I intend to live the rest of my life. Protecting over 100 miles of pristine coastline on our coast is a top priority of mine and is the reason I am so excited this morning to head down to Camden County for the Ceylon and Cabin Bluff ceremony hosted by the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR). This ceremony is being held to celebrate the legacy acquisitions of the land making up the new Ceylon and Cabin Bluff Wildlife Management Areas in coastal Georgia, the largest protection projects the state has completed, and some of the most conservation-important properties in the State. Without question, the most impressive part of this great project is how so many different groups came together and worked hand-in-hand to bring this legacy project to fruition.

Afterward, while still on the property, I film this week’s edition of Buddy’s Briefing before heading up to Glynn County to the DNR office where staff and I take a boat ride to the Golden Ray wreckage in the St. Simons Sound. Along with my good friend director of Coastal Resources Division (CRD) of DNR, Doug Haymans, and representatives from the Coast Guard and other groups involved in the cleanup, we are brought up to date on what we hope will be the final stages of the project. Next, I meet with my good friend Mike Hodges as we discuss the American World War II Heritage designation effort that he is leading for Glynn County.

Friday, September 2, 2021: I’m excited this morning to join my good friends Scott James and Bill Edwards on the radio. After speaking to Scott on his show in Valdosta, I speak to Bill on his show in Savannah as we discuss the worst foreign relations debacle in the history of our nation that’s taking place in Afghanistan. After arriving at my Savannah district office, I meet with a constituent who is running for Recorder's Court in Chatham County before joining in on our all-staff conference call. Next, I have one of the most important meetings of my congressional career as I meet with five of our Veterans, our heroes, who served in Afghanistan. While I had the opportunity to tell these heroes face to face that their service and sacrifice in Afghanistan was not in vain despite the botched exit that resulted in the worst foreign relations debacle in the history of our nation, mostly I just wanted to listen. It was my honor to meet with these heroes.

Later in the afternoon, I head to the Enmarket Arena that is currently under construction in Savannah where I am led on a tour of this 9500 seat sports and entertainment arena that is set to open in 2022. Everyone involved in this first-class entertainment destination should be congratulated. Surely, it will be yet another great asset to this beautiful “Hostess City of The South.”
