As a lifelong resident of the First Congressional District of Georgia, I am proud to represent over 100 miles of pristine coastline, beautiful forests, the Okefenokee Swamp, and so much more. Our District is home to some of the most breathtaking sites in the world, and we want to ensure that future generations can enjoy our home’s natural beauty. I say it all the time, but no one loves the environment more than South Georgians. As Chair of the Environment, Manufacturing, and Critical Materials Subcommittee of the Energy and Commerce Committee, I am uniquely positioned to effect change in Washington. The state of Georgia is proof that pro-growth policies and environmental protections are not mutually exclusive. Innovation, not regulation, is the key to unlocking our energy potential, reducing emissions, and growing our economy. We also must adopt an “all-of-the-above” type energy strategy that incorporates fossil fuels, wind, solar, natural gas, nuclear, and other renewable energy sources. This will ensure that we have reliable, affordable, base load energy that works even when the sun doesn’t shine, and wind doesn’t blow. The United States is a global leader in emissions reduction – for every unit of carbon emissions we cut, China adds two. If we do not strengthen our critical materials and energy supply chains and increase domestic production, then countries will be forced to purchase these vital resources from less environmentally friendly nations. American energy and critical material dominance is not just good for our economy; it’s good for the environment and the entire world. |
