Terrorist Use of Social Media

ISIS and other terror organizations are using social media sites like Twitter and Facebook to recruit, radicalize, and organize attacks. The presence of terrorists using social media continues to increase and this fact was made clear in the devastating terrorist attack in San Bernardino. The husband and wife terrorists responsible for the attack used social media and even made a pledge on Facebook in support of ISIS.

The Obama Administration committed to developing a strategy to counter terrorists' use of social media in 2011 yet we still have not seen a plan. To address this, the House considered legislation this week to require the president to examine how terrorists use social media and actually create a strategy to defeat it.
