Supreme Court Nomination
Supreme Court Nomination
On Saturday, February 13, America lost an ardent defender of the Constitution when Justice Antonin Scalia passed away. Justice Scalia's time on the bench was what our founding fathers envisioned and his wise voice will be missed.
Now, President Obama plans to nominate a successor to fill the vacancy on the Court. However, Senate leaders have said they will not consider a nominee to fill the vacancy until we have a new president. I agree that the American people deserve a voice in the nomination of a new Supreme Court Justice and we should wait until the American people select new leadership in the White House.
This selection has the potential to have an even greater impact on our nation than the presidential race since the court is currently split after Justice Scalia's death. That is why I sent a letter to Senate leaders asking them to stand by their decision to wait until after a new president takes office next year.
Should the Senate wait to confirm a nominee to the Supreme Court until after a new president is elected?
