WASHINGTON, D.C. – Reps. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) and Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) sent a letter to Major League Baseball (MLB) Commissioner Robert Manfred today asking how the MLB plans to “redress the harm” caused by its “baseless attacks” on the Election Integrity Act.
Despite an uptick in voter turnout since the Election Integrity Act was passed, the MLB has not retracted its accusations that Georgia was engaged in voter suppression, which led to it pulling the MLB All-Star Game from the State last year.
“Cancel culture has hit America’s favorite pastime in a devastating way. The MLB was quick to spread false information and punish Georgia’s baseball community and small business owners but is silent now that those claims have been proven false,” said Congressman Carter. “Minority-owned businesses are bearing the brunt of the $100 million in losses caused by the MLB’s brash decision, the same group it was supposedly supporting when it originally moved the game. This is liberal hypocrisy and must be corrected.”
“We live in a day and age when major league sports organizations are wading into political matters more often, which I personally disagree with, but it is their right. When they do decide to engage in political discourse, it’s vitally important for organizations, like Major League Baseball, to look at the facts and not the woke mob’s lies and falsehoods. Unfortunately, MLB didn’t do that when it pulled the 2021 All-Star Game from Georgia; because, if they had, they would have realized the falsehoods being spread about Georgia’s election law were nothing more than baseless talking points from Stacey Abrams and her allies, which have been debunked even by liberal newspapers. And now, we have had a real test of Georgia’s election law, and the evidence is clear: Georgia’s recent primary had record turnout, and MLB’s claim that the law is discriminatory was proven totally false. MLB’s shallow virtue signaling had real world consequences for the people of our state. Hardworking Georgians deserve an apology from MLB," said Congressman Loudermilk.
