Carter response to SOTU: We need change, not victory laps

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) gave the following response after attending President Joseph R. Biden’s third State of the Union address to a joint session of Congress:

“The White House is only two miles away from the U.S. Capitol, but after tonight’s address I am convinced that President Biden lives in a completely different world.

"
By every metric that matters to South Georgians, this President’s policies have failed. Inflation in Georgia hit 15 percent and is costing Americans nearly $10,000 a year. The southern border is wide open for both illegal immigration and illegal drugs. 200 people, primarily young people, die every day from the fentanyl crisis, yet this administration is more concerned with fencing in the Capitol building than securing our southern border. Wage growth has been negative for 21 straight months and a supercharged IRS threatens the recovery of thousands of small businesses still clawing their way back from COVID-19 lockdowns. The most important function of our federal government is to provide for the nation’s defense, yet we have China in our airspace, and we left Americans behind enemy lines.

"
The State of the Union is in peril, and instead of taking accountability, this president continued to lecture Americans about a state of the union that is completely foreign to them. We’re hurting, Mr. President – now is the time for change, not victory laps.”
