Carter introduces resolution condemning the violent “Stop Cop City” attacks in Atlanta

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) introduced a resolution condemning the violent March 5th, 2023 “Stop Cop City” attacks on the Atlanta Public Safety Training Center, which led to destruction of property with weapons including Molotov cocktails and 23 domestic terrorism charges. Only two of those arrested are from the state of Georgia.

Rep. Carter introduced the resolution alongside Georgia Republican Reps. Andrew Clyde, Drew Ferguson, Austin Scott, Rich McCormick, Barry Loudermilk, and Rick Allen.

“Georgians back the blue and I am proud to lead this resolution in defense of our brave law enforcement officers,” said Rep. Carter. “Not only were these attacks violent and unnecessary, but these criminals claimed to be protecting the site against ‘ecological destruction’ while destroying it with fireworks and Molotov cocktails. Defund the Police is not a movement, it’s a threat to our public safety, and Georgians refuse to stand for it.”

This attack comes after major cities saw a 42 percent increase in homicides and a 34 percent increase in aggravated assaults from 2019 to 2022, sparked in part by the “Defund the Police” movement that emboldened criminals at the expense of police officers’ jobs and safety.
