Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) released the following statement today after House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) won the gavel in a Wednesday afternoon House floor vote: “Today is a good day for America. Speaker Mike Johnson has proven that he can unite and lead our conference, which is what our country needs right now. He is a stalwart conservative, constitutional expert, and an effective legislator who will build on Republican Majority’s legislative wins and deliver on the Commitment to America. “Democracy can be messy, and these past few weeks have been proof of that. While I disagreed with the decision to oust McCarthy, I am proud that our conference has a deep bench of strong leaders.
