Carter procures funding for Nahunta to improve wastewater collection and treatment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) procured funding through the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) Rural Development Water and Waste Disposal Loans and Grants program last week to improve wastewater collection and treatment system in Nahunta, Georgia.

USDA awarded the City of Nahunta a $2.812 million grant and $2.126 million loan to fund this project, which will construct a replacement water pollution control plant and improve the current collection system, pump station, erosion control, and other features of the city’s wastewater collection and treatment.

“I’m pleased that USDA understands the importance of ensuring that rural communities have access to a reliable wastewater collection and treatment system. Nahunta deserves this necessary funding to keep its residents healthy and its operations running smoothly. As a former mayor, I know how important it is that we continue to advocate for local projects like this on the federal level so that our communities can thrive,” said Rep. Carter.

In total, Nahunta’s wastewater collection and treatment system improvements will cost $5.438 million.
