Carter secures federal grant for berth replacements at Brunswick Port

GARDEN CITY – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) secured a $15 million federal grant for the Georgia Ports Authority (GPA) this week to replace a port berth and two vessel berths at the Port of Brunswick, improving its efficiency, safety, and reliability.

The East River Terminal Berth Replacement Project will demolish and replace Berth #2 main dock and demolish and rebuild Berth #3 at half its existing length to facilitate the long-term use of the terminal by vessels carrying U.S. exports. The project will also construct a continuous marine fender system for Berths #2-3, install electrical and water utilities, and dredge the Berth #3 vessel berthing area.

“The Port of Brunswick is a major economic driver, not just for our region, but for the entire nation. It is critical that we invest in this necessary resource, and I applaud the GPA for consistently growing and improving its operations so that our District can maintain its status as an international shipping hub. The entire Georgia delegation supported this funding, and I am excited to see how it improves operations at the Brunswick Port,”
said Rep. Carter.

“We want to express our appreciation to Congressman Carter, Senators Ossoff and Warnock, Governor Kemp, and the entire Georgia delegation for their support in achieving this Federal grant. Thanks to their leadership efforts, this $15 million Federal grant will enable Georgia grown forest products and other commodities to compete stronger in world markets through a competitive port,”
said Jamie McCurry, Georgia Ports’ Chief Administration Officer. “These are exciting times for the Port of Brunswick’s growth as a national gateway with investments including $17.5 million in planned harbor improvements by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers along with $262 million in facility upgrades and expansions by the Georgia Ports Authority.”

Funding for the East River Terminal Berth Replacement Project is allocated through the Nationally Significant Multimodal Freight and Highway program.
