Carter Announces Federal Grant for Jekyll Island Revetment Restoration

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today announced a federal grant of $1,416,326.25 to the Jekyll Island Authority for revetment restoration. Carter worked with the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and local authorities to secure this funding.

"I'm thrilled that we have secured this funding," said Carter. "The revetment project is critical to prevent storm surge on the island and to prevent hurricane damage and erosion to beaches, roads and homes. I'm glad FEMA finally listened to our calls to expedite this funding so we can finally get this project across the finish line before any more damage occurs."

Background:

The Tybee Island revetment project was under construction when it was damaged by Hurricane Irma. Therefore, more funding was needed to complete the project and repair the damage caused by the hurricane.

Carter worked with local authorities to urge FEMA to expedite the process to deliver the funds as soon as possible resulting in the announcement today. With this funding, the project will be able to be completed pending no additional damages.
