Carter Announces Federal Grants to Support First District Health Centers During COVID-19 Pandemic

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today announced federal grants to support health centers in Savannah, Brunswick, Ludowici and Waycross during the COVID-19 pandemic. The Health Center Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding will support health centers in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of COVID-19. The funding will also help health centers maintain or increase capacity and staffing levels during the public health emergency.

The funding is provided by the CARES Act, which was supported by Carter in the U.S. House of Representatives and signed into law by President Trump.

"The CARES Act will directly help our health centers respond to the coronavirus," said Carter. "Health centers will be able to use this funding to prevent, diagnose and treat the coronavirus. It will also help maintain or increase staffing levels as these health care professionals fight the coronavirus on the front lines. I thank the health care providers across Georgia and the nation working tirelessly to save lives and I will continue to do everything I can to support them."

The funding, awarded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) includes:

  • $971,945 for JC Lewis Health Center in Savannah
  • $1,179,380 for Curtis V. Cooper Primary Health Care in Savannah
  • $693,305 for Coastal Community Health Services, Inc. in Brunswick
  • $747,335 for McKinney Medical Center, Inc. in Waycross
  • $698,675 for Diversity Health Center in Ludowici
