Carter Announces Federal Housing Grants for First District to Address Coronavirus

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today announced federal Community Development Block Grants for Brunswick, Hinesville, Valdosta and Savannah in the First District of Georgia. According to the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Community Development Block Grant provides flexible funding to states and local governments for a range of services to address coronavirus impacts at the community level.
Additionally, Savannah will receive an Emergency Shelter Grant (ESG). According to HUD, the ESG is awarded to state and local governments to limit the spread of the virus among the homeless population and to help reduce increases in homelessness due to financial distress. The grants are funded by the CARES Act, which was approved by Congress and signed into law by President Trump last week with Carter's support. "The CARES Act provides important funding to state and local governments to fight the coronavirus on the ground," said Carter. "The grants announced today will support local efforts to address housing, homelessness and other issues during the pandemic response. I applaud the administration for distributing these necessary grants so quickly." The grants funded by the CARES Act include:
