Carter: this is a fabricated crisis

Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) released the following statement today following the House vote on H.R. 8015, partisan legislation related to the Post Office.

"This is a fabricated crisis created by Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Democratic party. Instead of coming to the negotiating table to create a real compromise on relief for Americans who have been hurt by the COVID-19 pandemic, Democrats are spreading misinformation and fear about the post office.

To be clear, the post office is capable of handling the mail ahead of the election. Even if every single registered American voter decided to vote by mail, the total possible volume of requested and mailed in ballots would not exceed a typical day of total USPS mail volume.

The Postal Service has also announced that, ahead of the election, retail hours at post offices will not change, mail processing equipment and blue collection boxes will remain where they are, no mail processing facilities will be closed, and overtime has and will continue to be approved as needed.

USPS is also working to educate states on how to make mail-in-voting successful, not the opposite.  If anything needs to be addressed, it's the fact that states need to be realistic with their expectations and deadlines. While USPS is certainly in need of reform, it will be fine and there is certainly no need to panic.”
