Carter secures funding for water infrastructure projects in Georgia’s First District

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Transportation and Infrastructure Committee this week introduced H.R. 7776, the Water Resources Development Act (WRDA), which includes funding for three local water infrastructure projects sponsored by Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA).

The projects include wins for the Tybee Island Beach Nourishment Project, the Brunswick Harbor Modification Project, and the Savannah Harbor Modification Study.

“It is an honor and a privilege to represent all 110 miles of Georgia’s pristine coastline,” said Rep. Carter. “The funding in this year’s WRDA will help preserve this beauty for generations to come and will elevate our shipping industry in both Brunswick and Savannah. By creating jobs and protecting residents against storm damage, taxpayers will directly benefit from this investment of their hard-earned dollars.”

Specifically, the WRDA authorizes:

- Tybee Island: An additional 50 years of the beach nourishment project, which protects against hurricane and storm damage.

- Brunswick: $14,369,000 to support the Brunswick Harbor Modifications Project, which will improve ship traffic in the Brunswick Harbor.

- Savannah: A feasibility study aimed at increasing transportation efficiency and improving vessel safety within the Savannah Harbor.
