‘A Nation that is Safe’: Carter urges support for law enforcement, firearm safety following visit with Chatham County Police

CHATHAM COUNTY – In response to a nationwide rise in violent crime, Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) met with the Chatham County Police force to learn more about the state of policing in the First District and offer support to the brave men and women who serve and protect it.

“Right now, our law enforcement officers are facing unprecedented attacks on their ability to do their jobs. I’m proud of Chief Hadley’s leadership in Chatham County and his transparency in allowing me to see first-hand what he and his officers see every day. I remain committed to backing the blue and restoring law and order in this nation, which includes securing our southern border so we can kick fentanyl off our streets for good,” said Carter.

“By sitting in on our weekly crime meeting and riding on patrol with one of our officers, Congressman Carter learned first-hand what our police officers deal with daily. Until you ride in the car with an officer wearing a bulletproof vest because he doesn’t know what he’ll encounter on his next call, and hear detectives discuss their cases and crime trends, it’s difficult to appreciate just how tough this job can be,”
said Chatham County Police Chief Jeffrey M. Hadley.

A key component of the House Republican Conference’s “Commitment to America” is ensuring a nation that is safe, which includes backing the blue, protecting the second amendment rights of law-abiding citizens, and keeping guns out of the hands of criminals.

“Law-abiding citizens are putting guns in the hands of criminals by leaving their firearms in unlocked vehicles. This completely preventable crime is happening at an alarming rate in Chatham County. If you must leave your firearm in a vehicle, make sure it is hidden from view and make sure your doors are locked,”
said Chief Hadley.

“The right to gun ownership should not be taken lightly. I echo Chief Hadley’s warning and urge all gun owners to educate themselves on proper gun storage and safety so that we can protect our families and communities while honoring our second amendment rights,”
said Carter.
