‘A Government that is Accountable’: Carter holds Pelosi’s feet to the fire on looming budget deadline

SAVANNAH – With 11 voting days left in the U.S. House of Representatives before the FY22 budget expires, Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today urged House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) to bring a balanced budget proposal to the Floor for a vote.

During his Savannah press conference, he also outlined key elements of House Republicans’ “Commitment to America” agenda. One of those components is establishing a government that is accountable, which includes ensuring that budget deadlines are followed so the American people know how their hard-earned tax dollars are being spent.

Highlights from his remarks:

“Next week, we go back up to Washington and we have 11 legislative days until the next midterm election. Those 11 legislative days are extremely important. What we do during that time is extremely important…

“We have a lot of deadlines we have to meet, not the least of which is that we have to have a budget taken care of before September 30th, when this current year budget will end. If we don’t, then the government shuts down, which is not good for anyone.

“We have high school graduates out there now that have never known a budget surplus. We have $30 trillion in debt. $30 trillion in debt. This President, earlier this year, proposed a budget that is going to add $16 trillion to that debt over the next 10 years, calling for deficit spending of over $1 trillion every year in his budget…

“In the next 11 days, I hope that the Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi, in her short time that she will be speaker up until we take over the majority in January, I hope that she will propose a balanced budget so that we can vote on it in Congress.

“Instead, I don’t know what the Democrats are going to be having on the agenda…Is it going to be the things that are important to people, inflation, crime, the southern border, or is it going to be meaningless things like we’ve dealt with throughout this session?...

“I am very excited about what the Republicans have to offer. We’ve gathered the information now, we know what matters to the American people. Now, we’re going to address that.”
