Carter celebrates House passage of largest spending cut in American history

WASHINGTON, D.C. –  Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today assisted House Republicans in averting a federal debt default by voting in favor of a bill that cuts spending and pays America’s bills, which is now headed to the Senate.

The Fiscal Responsibility Act responsibly raises the United States’ debt limit by saving $2.1 trillion in taxpayer dollars while fully protecting our national defense, veterans, and seniors. It accomplishes these goals in part by clawing back unspent COVID-19 funds, adding work requirements to some welfare programs, unleashing American energy through permitting reform, restarting student loan payments, and reining in executive overreach.

“For decades, the federal government has spent your hard-earned tax dollars without thinking about the financial well-being of our nation. Today, we set our nation on a new trajectory. The Fiscal Responsibility Act is a bipartisan step in the right direction towards restoring fiscal sanity in Washington,” said Rep. Carter. “This compromise legislation is a win for the American people because it fights inflation, creates jobs, and will lift people out of poverty.”
