WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) today released the following statement after President Joe Biden signed a weak election year executive order that fails to make any progress towards securing our southern border:
“Biden’s election year stunt is an attempt to essentially legalize the lawlessness that has plagued our southern border since the day he took office.
“Biden’s administration said the border was secure; that was a lie. Biden said he’d done all he can do to secure the border; that was a lie. Today, he’s telling the American people that his executive order will strengthen our border security; once again, he’s lying, and the numbers prove it. Not only will this executive order allow up to 1.75 million illegal immigrants into our country per year, adding to the nearly 10 million illegal migrant encounters under Biden alone, but it also fails to reinstate any of the Trump-era policies that delivered the most secure border in history.
“Our border is not secure, and this executive order does nothing to change that. Thousands of Americans have died because President Biden refuses to endorse H.R. 2, the Secure the Border Act, and shut down our southern border. Today’s action, which is too little too late, only guarantees that this lawless drumbeat continues,” said Rep. Carter.
