Congressman Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-Ga.) today applauded the Trump administration's announcement of a nearly $20 million State Opioid Response (SOR) grant for the state of Georgia. This grant from the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration will provide funding to the state government to support opioid abuse prevention, treatment and recovery services.

"According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services, America is seeing the first drop in overdose deaths in more than two decades," said Carter. "This is great news, but we must continue to deliver assistance directly to state and local communities so they are able to provide the health care services needed to save lives. I thank the Trump administration for again continuing the important work we've done in Congress by awarding these grants to Georgia, and states across the country."

Georgia will receive $19,881,735 in SOR grant funding. This grant announcement is another continuation of Congress's passage of the SUPPORT Act and more than $10 billion in funding directed to fighting the epidemic in 2018, which Carter worked to secure.

Carter has been a leader in efforts to end the opioid epidemic in both the United States House of Representatives and the Georgia General Assembly. As a member of the Georgia General Assembly, Carter authored the Georgia Prescription Drug Monitoring Program.
