Carter pens letter calling for Taiwan to join the WHO

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) led a letter, signed by 15 Members of the GOP Doctors Caucus, to World Health Organization (WHO) Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus today advocating for Taiwan’s inclusion in the organization.

The WHO’s continued exclusion of Taiwan is a kowtow to the Chinese Communist Party, who refuse to acknowledge Taiwan as the independent nation that it is.

In the
letter, the Members write: “There is no question that the WHO’s actions and sympathizing with the Chinese Communist Party have led to the entire world turning upside down. Now, millions have died, and lives have been forever changed. This is a stark reminder that combating hazardous and unpredictable communicable diseases requires global unity and coordination.”

The Members continue:
“Disease knows no borders, and only by working alongside all our global partners may we eliminate this threat and ensure the integrity of global public health […] The world can only benefit from Taiwan’s full participation in the WHO.”

The following GOP Doctors Caucus Members co-signed the
letter: Rep. Brad Wenstrup, (R-OH), Rep. Jefferson Van Drew (R-NJ), Rep. Drew Ferguson (R-GA), Rep. Neal P. Dunn (R-FL), Rep. Scott DeJarlais (R-TN), Rep. Michael C. Burgess (R-TX), Rep. John Joyce (R-PA), Rep. Gregory F. Murphy (R-NC), Rep. Brian Babin (R-TX), Rep. Ronny Jackson (R-TX), Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks (R-IA), Rep. Larry Bucshon (R-IN), Rep.
