Carter on Mayorkas impeachment: “It was a constitutional duty”

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Rep. Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (R-GA) released the following statement after the U.S. House of Representatives voted today to impeach Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, the first Cabinet member to be impeached since 1876:

“Impeaching DHS Secretary Mayorkas was not a choice, it was a constitutional duty. He lied to Congress, welcomed millions of illegal migrants, including many on the terrorist watch list, into this country practically unchecked, and turned a blind eye to the swarm of illicit fentanyl that is now in every community and killing nearly 200 people per day. His irresponsibility led to the death of Americans. When I was at the border last week, conditions were worse than I’ve ever seen them. I’m calling on the Senate to hold its trial soon so that we can hold him accountable for the devastation he’s caused to health, safety, and rule-of-law in this country.”
