WASHINGTON, D.C. - House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) announced today that Rep. Earl L. "Buddy" Carter (R-GA) will join the bipartisan, bicameral conference committee on legislation to hold the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) accountable for its human rights abuses and strengthen the United States' economic independence.
The conference will meet to improve and work towards a version of the United States Innovation and Competition Act (USICA) that will put Americans First.
“From genocide against Uyghur Muslims to COVID-19, the world is less safe under China’s influence. In addition to promoting the ideals of freedom and democracy, the United States must stop relying on this foreign adversary for manufacturing. I represent the Brunswick Port in my District, which is currently backlogged with cars waiting for chips so they can be brought to the market. We should be making those chips here, and I will fight for increased domestic manufacturing. I thank Leader McCarthy for giving Georgians a voice on this important issue,” said Carter.
“Republicans are fighting and winning for American workers and families, and Buddy Carter’s bold work for Georgians has put him at the front of the pack. He has fought to free our supply chains from Chinese companies and slave labor. He has pushed for accountability on the origins of the COVID. He has worked to prohibit gain-of-function research and prevent the CCP from getting taxpayer funding. I’m confident he will help improve the flawed House version of this bill and will work to produce a truly bipartisan bill that puts America first,” said Leader McCarthy.
